Upon graduation, he began his teaching and coaching career at Twinsburg High School, where he just recently retired.  During his 32 years of teaching at Twinsburg High School, Jones coached both football and basketball for 25 years, coached football at Crestwood for two years, and football at Gilmour Academy for four years. During his time at Twinsburg, he was the Head Baseball Coach; his teams went 427-295 in the very competitive CVC, NOC and Suburban Leagues. Jones’ teams won seven league championships, 16 sectional Championships, three District Championships, two Regional Championships, and made two State “Final Four” appearances during his tenure; in 1990, his team won the A.P. State Championship. Jones has lead over 50 players to go on and play in college, seven professional players, has had 23 All-Ohio Academic players, three All-Ohio Poll Players, and three Mizuno All Ohio players.

Jones was named Coach of the Year seven times, has been inducted into the NEOBCA Hall of Fame, Twinsburg Hall of Fame, and now has the great honor of being inducted into the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame.

Jones attributes his success to the mentorship of his late father Reese Jones, a strong community, the support and love of his family, and his assistant coaches that were committed to the development of each player; he believes he would never have been successful without the assistants that worked with him tirelessly. Jones has retired from teaching, but he is still active in coaching football, basketball and baseball in various local communities. He and his wife Jennifer, live in Kent and have two children Katie, 31 (Joe), and Tyler, 22, and two grandchildren Easton, 3 and Claire, 1.
