Lou Vassalotti began his baseball career with the Manchester A’s, helping lead the team to two GABF State Championships and one AABC State Championship.
At St. Vincent-St.Mary High School, Lou earned All-City honors in 1988 before being named First Team All-City in 1989 and 1990. He was also selected All-District and All-Summit County in 1989 and earned Team Ohio honors in 1990.
Lou received a full scholarship to Youngstown State University, where he was a four-year starter and team captain for the Penguins. During his collegiate career, he set numerous single-season and career records, including 68 hits in a season, 181 career hits, 548 career at-bats, and 118 total bases in a season. He batted .412 during his senior season and was named Team MVP.
In 1994, Lou earned First Team All Mid-Continent Conference honors and was recognized as the Mid-Continent Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year.
