Benjamin Shepherd is a graduate of Ellet High School, where he was a three-year varsity letter winner from 1996–1998. During his senior season, he was named Team MVP, Best Defensive Player, and Most Improved Player while earning First Team All-City honors. He led the team in triples, drove in more than 30 runs, and finished the season with a .420 batting average.

Benjamin continued his playing career at The University of Akron, where he was a member of the varsity baseball team in 2000 and 2001. He led the team in pitching appearances during the 2001 season.

Benjamin has built an outstanding coaching career throughout Northeast Ohio. He served as Head Assistant and Pitching Coach at Tallmadge High School for 17 years before becoming Head Coach at Beachwood High School. During his two seasons at Beachwood, the program won league and sectional championships each year, and Benjamin was named both CVC Coach of the Year and GCBCA Coach of the Year twice.

Currently in his third year at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, Benjamin has helped lead the program to two Sectional Championships, a District Runner-Up finish, the 2025 District Championship, and a 20-win season.
