Played on a number of Barberton area Title teams in his youth where he developed as a strong right-handed pitcher, and because of his natural feel for all parts of the game, was also called on to play any position when his teams needed help somewhere. Was the leading force for the competitive Slovene Centers team that always was a contender in the leagues that it played in.
