As an Ellet High Graduate, Jim was part of the 1979 District Championship and the 1980 City Championship teams. His senior year, he was selected to the All-City team for his arm as well as his bat (.429 average ).
Accepting a scholarship to Vanderbilt Univ. as a freshman, he posted a 6-5 record. As a senior, Jim was co-captain of the team and had a record of 8-3. He remains in the top 10 in career wins and currently sits at number 5.
Jim was signed by HOF Hoyt Wilhelm as a free agent. He played for the New York Yankees Rookie league for one season posting a 3-2 record.
Jim currently resides in Hendersonville, TN. with his wife Lisa and has 3 daughters.
